Flu Season

It’s and cold & flu season. This year the sneaky corona flu (COVID-19) virus decided to emerge. It’s no different than the annoying seasonal influenza flu in its intensity but it spreads much faster than influenza. In Italy and China COVID-19 has a higher death rate 3.4% vs less than 1% death rate with the seasonal flu; likely because the more people infected with it, the higher the likelihood that people with immune compromise will get it and then the health care system gets overwhelmed and can’t provide the necessary care (for example high demand for respirators in the case of pneumonia) for those people with immune compromise where it may lead to pneumonia and difficulty breathing and ultimately poor survival (3.8% is primarily elderly so look out for your seniors and neighbours).

The WHO has officially designated it a pandemic which has caused a lot of fear but in most people it acts like a common flu. What’s important though is to keep yourselves and your family from getting run down so you can kick it fast and not get complications if you get it.

You can support your immune system in a huge way by focusing on the basics of getting enough sleep, eating nutritious whole foods, exercising, and practicing mindfulness (finding the silver lining in things and being in the moment…choosing to not overreact since it’s out of our control…)To consider – elderberry found in a formula mixed with echinacea “cold and flu elixir”, vitamin c, deep immune, Zinc, vitamin d drops. Consider taking a small amount daily to prevent and then increase the amount and frequency of dosing if you get the virus. Remember to stay home and isolate yourself…not just if you have a fever. You are most viral and contagious when coughing and sneezing, after the fever is gone! See if you can deal with the fever without Advil or Tylenol…let the fever kill your flu…take for pain only! These tips will shorten recovery time!! Take the time to be with your family. Cook together. Spring clean. Read. Limit social media. Go for nature walks. Help out others.
